What is the lifetime of the LED? How long could i expect this device to work?
At full power they are designed to last 100 000 hours, but they don't go up to full power, so it can be expected to last a fair bit longer. There is an automatic light-off feature after 10mins, in case you forget to switch off the lights, so in the worst case scenario where you never switch it off manually, you should be able to use it on more than 600 000 patients...
How sharp are the actual pictures? The photos i can see on this website are pretty impressive, but can i expect all my pictures to be as high quality ? Are some of these photos "fine-tuned" (sharpened, contraste, gamma, saturation etc...)?
The pictures are taken with the Canon 1100D in JPG (and some in RAW) format. They are compressed a little to make it easier to view on the website. This reduces the quality slightly, so we decided to fine tune some of the photos (sharpening them and using contrast).
Do you recommend that we fine-tune the images that come out of the camera, or just leave them completely untouched?
In day to day practice, there is no need to bother spending time on playing with the image. We recommend just taking a photo and then do your iridology analysis. If you are preparing posters, a book or a presentation, then go ahead and fine-tune the image, but the quality is great, straight out of the camera.
In some cases, if the image is a bit too dark or was taken a little to quickly and is a bit blurred, then fine-tuning can regain some lost details. Also with dark brown irises it is sometimes useful to increase the exposure settings, and this can be done to a certain extent to the photo after it has been taken.
Cameras evolve quickly, will the IE be compatible with cameras in the future? Will i be able to upgrade later?
We use the latest technology in crystal balls, but when it comes to cameras there are no guarantees ... but but but... it is very likely that compatibility will not be a problem. We believe that cameras are evolving so that they will become more compatible, and better quality.
I have different camera than the ones you recommend. Do i really need to get a new camera?
We have tried many, many cameras... it is not a straightforward process. It is possible that there are other cameras that will offer similar or even better results, but we can't be sure even if we see detailed specs of your camera. Really the only guarantee would be to try out the compatibility in a practical way. We can give you our recommendation, based on our experience, if you send us the specifications of your particular camera.
I own a Canon G11 / I own a Canon 450D.
Yes the G9, G10, G11 are cameras we used before and they are compatible (its worth noting that each version increased in quality, so expect a drop in quality of pictures with each step back). With DSLR, all the camera bodies are compatible with the 60mm macro lens and thus compatible with the IE2 (just to be 100%, we do advise you to check with your local camera shop)
I own a Canon G15...
There is a slide difference. Contact us for more detail.
Other examples of compatible Canon cameras
All DSLR cameras from Canon : 700D, 1000D, 1100D, 1200D, 70D, 5D. This list is incomplete, if you have any doubts, please do contact us.
I own a Nikon Coolpix p510.
We did a bit of research and we can't guarantee anything as we haven't tried that camera... but it does look like it might be possible.
Many cameras are not compatible for various reasons (minimum focus distance, ability to autofocus on the iris, thread on the lens or ability to add a filter on the front... and other reasons...). However looking at the spec it seems like it might be possible, but needs to be tested to be sure.
Dark irises are more difficult to observe & photograph. I see on this website some examples photos of dark irises that look good, but in real life, will it be easy to get good quality brown iris photos?
Yes, some brown irises can be more difficult to photograph. A rough estimate from our experience is that about 25% of brown irises are more difficult, but this does not mean it is not possible.
Here are some examples of brown irises: Link
As you can see, some are great, some seem less sharp and seem to lose detail.
There are a few ways to handle this:
Change the settings of the camera. Set the camera to 1/40 and if required, the ISO to 1600.
Take more photos and pick the best ones.
Practice using the camera more. The better you handle the camera, the better you get at positioning the camera correctly, the more steady you will be when taking the shot...
Is it difficult to use? I lack confidence, I never owned a digital camera, I'm worried it will be too difficult and confusing. I'm a beginner and lack confidence, could this make me more stressed?
This question is often asked and before a detailed answer, let us tell you that we have sold hundreds of iriscopes and we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee... And we have 100% satisfied users, every user has been able to make the iriscope work for them. Even though it requires to be used in a precise way, it doesn't take long to get very good at using the iriscope.
Our camera Iriscope the IE60M is based on the Canon 1100D (Rebel T3). This camera is made for the general public and thus the design has set a high priority on "easy of use".
The second aspect that worries some users is, what to do once the photos have been taken. Again this is a straight forward procedure. Just like with any digital camera, the photo is stored on the memory card and it needs to be moved to your computer. Connect the camera and save the image onto your computer into your client documents. (We have little videos that show you how to do this properly and help you easily stay organised).
The lights seem intensive and go directly in the eyes. Are the lights damaging/dangerous for the retina?
The lights used in the IrisExplorer v2, are specialised LEDs. The light levels emitted are low (similar to 3-4 candles). They are safe.
For comfort reasons, we recommend not to light an eye for more than 3 minutes at a time and to regularly check with your patient to see if they are comfortable.
The light is pulsed at high frequency (invisible for our eyes), thus reducing the feeling of brightness. For extra sensitive people the light levels can be dimmed down.
The standard warranty is one year on the iriscope (IrisExplorer, camera & microscope).
Includes any basic customer service (by email or phone). If FAQ and support videos answer most queries, but if there is any other requirement, we're available to help in any way required.
After the warranty period we work on a win-win basis, if it's a small request that doesn't require much time or work, its free, if its more substantial (10mins+) then it's considered a tech support ticket £45 (1h max) + cost of materials. However over the last 7 years we've never needed to use this as most issues are something simple like a camera setting or the replacement of a broken part (either free or at cost price & maybe shipping).
Extended Gold Warranty (+1yr)
We also have an extra Gold warrantee, that adds 1 extra year of premium warranty.
£29 for the IEv3
£39 for the IEG16 camera or IrisMicroscope Portable
£59 for the IE60M, IE100M, IMS & all Combo Packs

If the device accidentally gets broken, can it be repaired and if yes, how & where would this be done?
If the device was broken accidentally, contact us, and we can work with you, to get you up and running again as soon as possible. (see above : Standard warranty)
I bought an IrisExplorer last month and i just found out that i'm pregnant. This changes my priorities, is there any chance i could return you the device and get a refund?
There is a 2 weeks return policy, if you change your mind which involves a full refund. Past this date, we will work with you, to find a solution that will leave everyone happy. Contact us to talk further.
What kind of support comes with the device? If I have difficulty taking good pictures or if I'm finding it difficult to set the camera parameters right, will you be able to help? If yes how is this done?
The basic support (by email) is a standard "return to base" if there is any problem with the equipment. With the Extended Gold warranty, it's the same but we process the support requests at high priority and if needed, we can assist by phone/Skype video call.
We want win-win interactions with all our clients, so we will do our best to meet your requests.
We have sold hundreds of iriscopes and are very capable of helping you get good at taking photos.
I don't speak english very well, how do you provide support for those not able to speak english?
We're able to communicate in English & French, although we have sold to customers from many different languages with the help of google translate and similar tools. Our tools are easy to use, so very little support is actually needed, but we will do our best to serve your needs as best as we can.
World wide service
I live South Africa. Are you able to ship to me? If yes what are the conditions?
Yes we can ship to any location that a recognised company like DHL or Fedex will deliver to.
How does your technical support function? What if there is a technical problem with the device or with the camera?
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee to our customers. We will not be happy, until you are. With the shipping costs … if there are any shipping requirements, we will meet you halfway and cover 50% of shipping costs.
What if i change my mind after the 1st week and would like a refund? Who covers the shipping costs?
(to ease logistics, for locations outside Europe, we recommend only getting the IrisExplorer and getting the camera equipment locally).
You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.
Purchase & Payment
Can i pay with Paypal ? transfer ? credit card ? cash ?
At the moment we offer the option to pay with Paypal and standard Bank Transfer. We will soon be able to offer payment via Amazon payment gateway.
Worldwide payment methods
I don't have a Paypal account, nor is my credit card accepted on your site. What other options are available ?
Bitcoin : An alternative method is with Bitcoins. This is a relatively new payment method and we are testing this option with our equipment. This method has one great advantage, which is the high security/trust this payment offers, so for locations where paypal isn't available, bitcoin is possible. Just contact us for the details.
I'd like to see & try them myself, to get feel for it in my own hands... Where could I go and see them, do you have a shop or a distibutor in my area that I could go and see ?
For the last 7 years we've been mainly working in France and recently we've starting to reach a more international audience. In France most schools use our equipment and most of our clients use our equipment during their iridology studies. We have regularly given demos in some of the schools, but we are less and less available for this.
We understand the need to be able to see our equipment. This is a big investment for any business. Practically, it is not feasible for us to demonstrate our product all round the world, so our solution to this is to remove the purchase risk. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee to all clients. (To date we have not even been asked a refund for our equipment, which we feel is incredible and makes us very confident in the quality and value of our product).
Our endeavour is to advance the science of iridology, and therefore we want to make it as easy and safe as possible for you to buy our equipment. There's no getting away from high shipping costs, but we will do what we can to minimize this for you. For Example if you are in Europe, we will cover all shipping costs on the sales of our IE v2 light ring, including the eventualitly of it being returned to us. It is not feasible for us to make this an unlimited offer, but we want to make sure that our customers feel that they are going to be well looked after.
Just talk to us, and we will work it out with you. Our policy is to make our customers smile.
Hi I'm a student and have very limited budget, but your device would really help me in my studies. Is it possible to have a "student discount"?
IrisLab started when the founder Matthew D'haemer was a student studying naturopathy in NZ, and became fascinated by iridology. It was clear that becoming good at this modality meant being able to observe many irises. Being a student living on a student budget made it difficult to afford the type of Iriscope available at the time (roughly 5000$), thus the quest started. So we are very aware of the need to keep prices as low as possible.
We occasionally run special offers for students/schools. If you would like to suggest a type of special offer, please contact us and let your iridology teacher know. We can see if it fits into certain requirements.
In our class there are a number of us interested in purchasing an IE. Is there any chance you could give us a group discount?
Yes, like the answer above, contact us and we will try to make an offer.
NB : If you've recently graduated and are in the process of setting up your practice, we sometimes can include you together with an offer we are running, contact us and let us know your situation.
I don't like buying equipment online, it's not that I don't trust you, its juste that I've been ripped off before when buying stuff online and I prefer to get it from a real shop with a real sales person etc...
Unfortunately we don't have the infrastructure or the resources to have a "brick and mortar" shop or show rooms.
Distributors / affiliate
I'm an established distributor and I like your product. Do you have an affiliate system or could I be one of you distributors in my country/area?
We're keen to talk to distributors/affiliates. If you're an established company that works in a way that fits in with our own ethical standards, we would be happy to talk to you. Please contact us with your details.
