Upgraded: New IrisExplorer Version 5.1

Iris Lighting System

What's so great about it?

The IrisExplorer v5 is our most advanced iris Lighting System. Version 5.1 uses the same hardware but with upgraded software inside.

Key Benefits:

Soft Comfortable Flash. Low light allows the camera to focus and when ready a flash is triggered to take a high-quality photo. It is very comfortable for clients and a big increase in image quality.

Burst Mode (New with v5.1):  See the video below. This enables you to take 4 photos in one burst. These 4 photos will be:

  1. Both sides - Low light - Good for Sclera details (white of the eye)
  2. Left Lighting
  3. Right Lighting
  4. Both sides at 100% Intensity

Introduction

Taking a Photo

Included:

  • Iris lighting device (IrisExplorer v5)
  • Macro extension tube

NB: Camera & Lens are not included with the IrisExplorer v5  (Some cameras will also need a camera lens adaptor or a flash hot shoe adaptor). We offer a complete iriscope package called the Iriscope I60 v5.1

Camera Equipment needed:

We're testing different camera options that will work with the IrisExplorer v5. Our favourite at the moment is the Canon M50 camera + Canon 60mm lens.

Other great (and compatible) cameras are all the Canon APS-C cameras (eg. 700D, 80D etc... It's best if they have the centre pin on the flash hotshoe:

It will also work with those that don't have the centre pin (eg. Canon 2000D, 250D...), but it requires a different cable so please contact us before placing your order.

Some clients are getting some good results with a Sony macro lens and also a Sigma macro lens (thus enabling many different camera brands (Sony, Nikon & Sigma). We're exploring these options so please contact us before placing your order.

NB: Canon mirrorless cameras (eg. M50 or M6 mark II) will need an extra adaptor. This adaptor is needed to make the lens mount from the lens (and the extension tubes) compatible with the new M-mount system. See the 2nd image shows the "adaptor"

NB: The Canon 4000D is not compatible with v5, but is compatible with our v4 (we still have a few of these in stock, contact us if interested )

Please contact us if you have any questions :-)

Shipping & Import Taxes

Most countries charge import taxes for products that enter the country/zone. It's the importer (You) that is required to cover this. The shipping company (Eg. DHL) will request this and add some administration fees to manage the import process for you.

Please only order if you are able and willing to cover these fees. If these fees are not paid the product will be sent back to us. This creates extra costs (shipping back to us + extra admin fees from DHL and IRISLAB). These extra shipping and admin costs will be added to your invoice if you wish it to be sent to a different address or taken from your refund if you wish a refund. Thank you for your understanding.

Light Intensity:

The light intensity that reaches the eye from the IEv5 is maximum 11'000 Lux for a few milliseconds during the flash (about 55% of the light from standing in the shade and looking at a blue sky or 9.9% of sunlight). The IEv5 has been very carefully designed to control light intensity and colour.

Euros :

Payment option in euros is possible. On the payment page, make sure to click on "euros payment" option when you're placing your order and follow the instructions that will be available.

    1. High-quality photo ensures the sharpness and true colours preserved
    2. Focusing is automatic, a few seconds to photograph both irises makes it easy & quick to use.
    3. Cuts out most of the ambient light, thus less light pollution
    4. Lateral lighting (optional) brings out certain types of structural details
    5. Microchip controlled lighting On/Off with Left/Right & Dim
    6. Specialised (Pulse-Modulated) LEDs: Giving a soft and perfect white colour caste, which interacts correctly with the camera settings to reveal the maximum detail
    7. Designed for both blue & brown irises
    8. Front opening fits all morphologies (adults & children)
    9. Comfortable & hygienic
    10. Robust design, for repeated clinic & lab use over many years
  • Canon is synonymous with high-quality photos and the IE lighting is specifically designed to be compatible with their lens and bodies.
The 60mm Macro lens is perfect for the task. Mounted on any Canon DSLR, the IE lighting will enable sharp photos that are true to the real colours of the iris.

    1. Pulse-Modulated Intensity control 'PMC 5 Technology'* Gives soft, yet strong light with Dimming option for sensitive patients
    2. PMC-5 Technology = Pulse Microchip Control 5th Generation (Details)
    3. Pulse-Modulated Intensity = Light is pulsed at high frequency, invisible for our eyes, this reduces the feeling of brightness but the camera still gets 100% light intensity. Electronically controlling the length of the pulses, creates a dimming effect that has no effect on the colour of the light and low impact on camera sensitivity. (See video for a more detailed explanation)
Image showcasing the 'PMC 5 Technology' in operation, providing optimal lighting control for detailed iris imaging
    1. 127 g & 187 g (with 60mm lens adaptor tube & macro ext tube)
    2. 125 x 68 x 104 mm (with no adaptor tube)
  • Any computer that enables you to view digital photos is enough. It doesn't make a difference if you're using Windows, Mac or Linux. If the computer is very old (or very slow) it might not be practical for use in a clinic, so as long as the computer works well for most other uses it will work for this purpose also.

However, we do recommend a screen size of at least 13" as this makes viewing photos easier (15" or more is better), the higher the resolution of the screen the better.

    1. Mac: The standard “Preview” software is great... so just transfer the photos from the camera to a folder on your computer and double click the image.
(More advanced software, like Photos is great for more advanced features).
    2. Windows: Same as above, the standard software is great... so just transfer the photos from the camera to a folder on your computer and double click the image.
(Note: there are many advanced and intermediate software options on windows)
  • IEv5 : Standard 9v square battery (easy to change & 100% safe)

At full power the LEDs in the IrisExplorer are designed to last 100 000 hours. In this application, they don't run at full power so can be expected to last a fair bit longer. There is an automatic light-off feature after 10mins in case you forget to switch off the lights, so in the worst-case scenario where you never switch it off manually you should be able to use it on more than 600 000 patients...
